The Prevora treatment regimen involves 4 weekly applications in the first month, followed by a single maintenance application during regular recall appointments. Maintenance treatment should be continued until the patient is asymptomatic for root caries.
The weekly treatments in the first month are designed to deliver a high level of chlorhexidine to the oral cavity and follow the medical model of double dosing antibiotics at the start of treatment.
In surveys, Canadian dental patients have indicated overwhelmingly that the four weekly appointments at the start of Prevora treatment are acceptable.
