PREVORA ANTIBACTERIAL TOOTH COATING: chlorhexidine acetate

 The Preventive Treatment

Prevora is a new and unique preventive treatment for the older Canadian dental patient experiencing gum recession, periodontal care, or dry mouth and with recurrent dental decay. Comprehensive professional and technical information on Prevora is provided in the Prevora Guide for the Dental Professional, or available by mail by calling 1-800-463-2999.

The Coating

Prevora is a two-stage coating which delivers a high concentration of chlorhexidine to the tooth surface. This coating is painted on all the tooth surfaces by the hygienist using a fine brush or cotton pellet. Prevora has 3 unique features:

  • High and frequent antimicrobial dosing of the biofilm after mechanical debridement of the tooth surface. Studies have shown that minimal dosing with a low concentration of chlorhexidine or fluoride is ineffective in adult caries management.
  • Sustained release of the antimicrobial at the site of the re-emerging biofilm. Mechanical control of the biofilm provides only temporary relief from the infection. Prevora’s two stage coating and its formulation maximize the length of time the chlorhexidine stays at the site of infection.
  • Treatment administered in the dental office. Studies show that patients are generally not compliant to preventive treatment of asymptomatic chronic diseases like caries.
