PREVORA ANTIBACTERIAL TOOTH COATING: chlorhexidine acetate

 Prevora

(10% w/v chlorhexidine acetate)

For the reduction of root caries in adults at high risk.

The Prevora antibacterial tooth coating is the first, proven and approved preventive treatment for root caries. The coating has been tested over many years in controlled studies and is approved by Health Canada as a topical treatment to be used in the dental office.

The Prevora coating is applied by the hygienist to the full dentition of the adult patient at risk of dental caries. The treatment regimen is 4 short appointments in the first month, followed by single, maintenance treatments at regular recalls.

The Prevora coating bonds to the tooth surface and then releases chlorhexidine over long periods to kill bacteria causing tooth decay. Its special formulation avoids tooth staining and the risks of patient non-compliance. This coating reduced root caries by 41% in one year in older patients with limited saliva, a level of efficacy unmatched in published studies.

The Prevora coating is a new tool for the hygiene team to manage the emerging needs for more effective prevention in the aging dental population. It is a treatment beneficial to Canadian adults with gum recession, dry mouth, undergoing periodontal care, or experiencing recurring dental decay.
